Of the people surveyed by the Opinion Research Group for Modis' study, 17 percent said they were geeks. The results pointed to a cultural shift in the way Americans perceive geeks. While two-thirds of "Millennials ," the age 18-34 demographic group, think being identified as a geek is a compliment, only 39 percent of respondents who are 65 and older agree.
We posted this story earlier today in our Gaming [H]eadlines but I am giving it a post of its own so you guys have a chance to comment on it.
The patent, discovered by webforum NeoGAF, was filed back in July 2011 under the moniker "Advertisement Scheme for use with interactive content." This scheme will warn players that their game is about to be interrupted momentarily with paid content, such as Sony's example of a soda commercial, before gameplay stops for a quick commercial. Once it's over, gameplay resumes.
The fellas at techPowerUP! have just published a review of the In Win BUC 101 case for those of you interested.
The In Win BUC 101 follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, the BUC, offering a fancy look with useful features and fairly compact dimensions. As a futuristic interpretation of the original chassis, with a few new features, the BUC 101 warrants another look at the case line - nearly one year after the original.
Are you running a triple monitor set up (Eyefinity - NV Surround)? Which way do you play? Are you a landscape man or a portrait kinda guy? Sound off in this forum thread.
Somehow I don't think Mr. Zuckerberg and his IPO billions gives a rat's ass what Bloomberg thinks. Anyone with half a brain knew better than investing in MySpace 2.0.
Based on the first five days of trading, the IPO did even worse than MS Global, a company that is now in bankruptcy, markets reporter Sheila Dharmarajan said on Bloomberg TV today. "It really goes to show the magnitude of the flop of the Facebook IPO," she said.
Think back, when is the last time anything good ever came of delaying a vote to "allow time for amendments?" Don't feel bad, I can't think of a anything either.
New Jersey lawmakers have postponed a vote on measures prohibiting employers and schools from requiring current or prospective employees or students to disclose social media user names or passwords. Thursday's votes were delayed to allow time for amendments.
What's next? Broadcasters suing the viewer for skipping commercials?
In a suit filed Thursday in a Los Angeles federal court, News Corp.'s Fox says Dish's service is unauthorized and violates a licensing agreement between the two companies. It says the service is a form of unlicensed video-on-demand because the recordings are kept on a portion of the DVR's hard drive that is controlled by Dish. Fox only licenses its regular programs to Dish for playback on VOD on the condition that fast-forwarding of commercials is disabled.
Donating millions to charity? Paying dividends to shareholders? Excluding himself from receiving more than $75M in dividend income? The more I know about this guy, the more I like him.
Apple said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday that Cook had asked to be excluded from a recently instituted company program through which employees can accumulate dividends on their restricted stock units that are still vesting.

While the name may remind you of toothpaste, Legit Reviews assures us that that Spire Coolgate 2011 CPU cooler is "small but mighty." Here's a quote from the full review:
This was my first hands on experience with a Spire product, and I can comfortably say that this little cooler definitely surprised me. I’m really not sure what was more surprising though, the fact that the install took just about three minutes to complete, or that for such a small cooler it was able to keep up with one of the larger coolers that I’ve tested
Not only are tax payers still on the hook for this (original story), it seems that all three hundred and seventy full-time employees have now been laid off too.
"The Company is experiencing an economic downturn. To avoid further losses and possibility of retrenchment, the Company has decided that a companywide lay off is absolutely necessary. These layoffs are non-voluntary and non-disciplinary.
This is your official notice of lay off, effective today, Thursday, May 24th, 2012."
There is a bit of NSFW language in this article but you guys really have to go read this. Heh, he said we "think of women as giggling titty support systems." Thanks to Railhaus for the link.
When you're in your mid-teens, hormones thundering through your system, popping wheelies and doing donuts in your brain, you tend to think of women as giggling titty support systems who exist only to give you something to masturbate to. Then we actually get to know some real women and grow out of it. Gaming has never grown out of it.
After reading the "clean your damn computer!" post we made yesterday, forum member Banditt sent me this picture with the following explanation:
I worked on a PC yesterday and thought you might get a kick out of this. Almost every fan on the machine was locked up due to being insanely dirty. The system would only turn on for a few seconds, show the post screen, and then lock up. After a little poking around I found that the heatsink on the Southbridge was so insanely hot you could have cooked on it. It went into thermal meltdown mode and got the heatsink so hot it burnt a nice ring around the chip. I’ve seen a lot of burnt cores in my time but never one that left a perfect outline like that.

Having someone use your video without permission sucks, but it isn't really news. Having your video removed from YouTube on a bogus copyright claim sucks even worse...but...still isn't news. Having Jay Leno and NBC gang up and do both to you is news.
Your company NBC just up and blocked our video and claimed that we are copyright infringers! But we are not! We made it! And this is the video that you said you loved! Now, if you try to watch our video (and again this is the video that had nothing to do with you until you used it in your show without asking) on YouTube it’s just a big black sign that basically says, "the makers of this video stole this video from NBC, so you can’t watch it!" Jay, what in the hell is going on here?
The massive Thermaltake Frio OCK heatpipe HSF is strapped to the HardCoreWare test bench today for some benchmark action. This quote about the design of the cooler made me chuckle:
The fan’s design is… interesting… If you were looking for a ‘classy’ aesthetic like you’d see with a Noctua cooler, you’ll have to look elsewhere. But if you want a design that shouts at the top of its lungs that you are one bad ass mofo (as if they couldn’t tell from the sound of all the fans in your rig whirring at top speed) then this is the one for you.
"Google-Motorola will have to take a license, leave the German market, or face serious issues that affect app developers and users," Florian Mueller, a legal consultant who runs the blog Foss Patents, tweeted today.
Google receives nearly 1.5 million copyright claims per month from less than 1,300 copyright owners? That is an average of almost one thousand take down requests a month from each copyright holder.
"We remove more search results for copyright reasons than for any other reason." Nearly 1.25 million take-down requests were received by Google search in the past month on behalf of 1,296 copyright owners, according to the debut report, which focused on that month.
Good thing Facebook didn't just pay a billion dollars for Instagram or this new iPhone camera app would seem like a pretty stupid idea. Wait....
The new app is similar to Instagram, the photo-sharing app Facebook is in the process of buying for $1 billion. The acquisition, however, has not yet been completed. Facebook didn't give details on when it might release a version of the app for phones that run on Google's Android operating system.
Wow, there are so many things wrong with this picture, I don't even know where to begin. I have no idea when this article was published but, given the fact that the stuff in that picture is at least 20 years old, I'm going to say early 90's.
MadShrimps has posted coverage of the Extreme Overclocking Session III event. You know it is going to be a good time when someone shows up with 600L of LN2.
