Are Video Game Price Cuts Coming?

With the economy being what it is, why hasn’t the video game industry lowered its prices? The Xbox 360 has reaped the benefits of cost cuts but the games are still the same price. Sony and Nintendo couldn’t care less about lowering prices, even when they are being beat over the head with lower revenue or outright losses. What do you think, are across-the-board price cuts coming or will it be business as usual?

Sony's PlayStation 3, the costliest of the bunch, still sells for $400. Nintendo hasn't lowered the $250 tag on the Wii since its 2006 launch — an extreme rarity for an industry that relies on regular price cuts to broaden its audience. Despite the bad earnings results Thursday, Sony and Nintendo both reaffirmed their forecasts for the year.

Intel Confirms SSD Data Corruption Issue

It seems as though Intel has confirmed those SSD data corruption rumors making the rounds. The company says it is working on a fix and has suspended shipments of the drives in the mean time. The problem only exists for people that have set their BIOS drive password and then attempts to disable or change it. Hit the link for more details.

Trying to provide its customers with support, Intel has advised users not to disable or change said password, in case a BIOS password has been set. In addition, the chip maker also decided to delay shipments of the new drives, until the issue was solved and a new firmware fix would be available and validated.

Steve Jobs Spotted in the Wild

Even as I post this here, I can’t help but wonder…have we sunk so low that we have to post pictures of Steve Jobs in a crosswalk (ala that 70s bigfoot picture) to prove he’s alive and thin? Umm, I meant "alive and well."

Windows 7 Activation Already Cracked

I’m not really sure why but I get this feeling Lenovo won’t bet getting anything early from Microsoft again for a long, long time.

Sort of funny that Microsoft made a big show of handing over the Windows 7 RTM code to Lenovo and other manufacturers last week -- the first activation crack for the OS has just appeared, and it's based on Lenovo's OEM license key. Oops.

Video Game Minority Report

A recent study has concluded that video games are racist. A professor at USC Annenberg School for Communication supposedly studied the top 150 games in a year and found a lack of minorities in the games. No word on whether aliens, mushrooms, plumbers, cyborgs and monsters are being unfairly depicted. roll eyes (sarcastic)

The first comprehensive survey of video game characters, encompassing the top 150 games in a year across nine platforms and all rating levels, and weighted by each title's popularity, shows that the video game industry does no better than television in representing American society. In some cases, video games do worse.

Presidential Safe House Information Found On P2P Sites

What can you find on LimeWire? How about music, movies and motorcade routes used by the president and the First Family’s safe house location. Yikes. Now we know why the government wants to ban P2P software on all government computers. eek!

Details about a U.S. Secret Service safe house for the First Family -- to be used in a national emergency -- were found to have leaked out on a LimeWire file-sharing network recently, members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee were told this morning. Also unearthed on LimeWire networks in recent days were presidential motorcade routes and a sensitive but unclassified document listing details on every nuclear facility in the country.

Facebook Erroneously Sucking in Twitter Updates

For some reason Twitter users that also use Facebook had their updates show up on their Facebook wall. The problems has been fixed so don’t freak out if this has happened to you since the last time you checked you Facebook page.

Earlier this evening, a small Facebook bug allowed a handful of apps to publish to the stream on behalf of users who had previously authorized the app. The situation has now been resolved, and all application settings will remain intact for users.
