AMD Teams up with Virtual Desktop Pioneer

AMD has invested an undisclosed sum of money in a company named Nivio. According to the article, AMD will help Nivio work on its ambition of making virtual Windows XP desktops and software accessible from any connected device, even a Linux PC or a smartphone.

The Nivio service uses virtualization to provide users with a virtual PC, which they can configure and even synchronize with their own PC, if they have one. The virtual PCs are hosted on AMD servers at data centers in Geneva and New Delhi, and streamed out over broadband.

Another Apple Store Burglarized

It seems criminals like Macs. In fact, they like them so much that they bashed in a storefront and made off with $25,000 in goods.

The break-in was the third at an Apple retail store and fourth at an Apple facility this month, underscoring a brewing problem for the Cupertino-based company as it prepares to stock its retail outlets with millions of dollars in additional merchandise ahead of the holiday shopping season.

Then again, how much can you get at an Apple store for $25k…two computers and an iPhone?

Embassy E-mails Hacked

A Swedish computer security consultant, after stumbling onto information for accounts belonging to a handful of major corporations, posted the information online in hopes of prompting the companies in question to take corrective action.

Egerstad told Computer Sweden: "I did an experiment and came across the information by accident." He said he tried contacting a few of the administrators responsible for the sites he posted, but so far they have all ignored him. He hopes that by posting the information the agencies will take corrective action.

According to this article, Apple has responded to NBC’s announcement earlier today, saying that the company will not sell any of the network’s programs for this fall season.

Apple Inc. escalated a dispute with NBC Universal over the pricing of television shows by announcing Friday it would not sell any of NBC's programs for this fall season on iTunes.

Copyright Violations For Just Having P2P Program?

Here is an interesting bit of reading for anyone with a P2P program installed on their computer. Does this mean anyone that uses a P2P program is committing copyright infringement?

SCO Appeals Unix Decision

Fighting to the bitter end, SCO has filed an appeal to the U.S. District Court decision that ruled Novell is the owner of the copyrights to Unix.

On Aug. 12, U.S. District Court Judge Dale Kimball ruled that Novell, not SCO, owns Unix's IP rights. Without Unix's IP, SCO's other cases against IBM, Red Hat and other Linux-using companies cannot be sustained.
